Superficiality of Tourism

In the article “'The people are so beautiful!' That's enough of the colonial tourism” of the guardian by SE Smith talk about the colonial tourism. In there she talk about the expression used such as “the people are so beautiful” describing them as gentle, kind and loving making a generalization of others.

Smith affirms that “the traveler is an observer” and I agree with that. The colonial tourism becomes to describe others in a simplistic term such as “novel savages” and they do not see what is really happening in its life’s.

I think people are not aware of the political and social context of some regions they visit. They do not ask themselves. They just criticize others without the understanding of what people is passing throw.

Visitors take pictures, making a daily action a show to entertain them and those are taken without the consent of this “weird things”. Some of native people go against for being photographed and tourists get offended. What is that? Does the tourist take the time to ask people if they can take a picture of them? I do not think that. I do not understand why they get offended if they do not rule now.

I agree with SE that the colonial tourism is like that. In a part of the article she said that she want to visit a place for being conscientious, to learn about a place, its history, its people, somewhere to respect the people who live there, not treat them as gross objects.

I think that our society is very superficial like the colonial tourism. We only see what we want and because of that we have problems with each other. We do not go deeper, I think we should.
