Discources of hate

At the beginning of this unit, called identity, in English class we started to talk about the apartheid system in South Africa. A period of time between 1955 to 1994 where racism took place. We saw the movie “Goodbye Bafana”. It explained how Nelson Mandela and black people were treated by white people. It also mentioned the freedom charter, a letter written by the African National Congress (ANC), where they said South Africa was for all: black or white.

The freedom charter was prohibited by the white power. They were scared, and convinced that if blacks rose to the power they would exterminate them. Joseph Goebbels, was a German politician and was also very close to Adolf Hitler. He once said “A lie repeated a million times becomes a truth” .That is a real thing that happen in latinamerican countries, were many times people had sold us the idea of different identities better than ours, so we lost our own identity. This affirmation is shown in a testimonial in the movie “Goodbye Bafana” in the 1960's (Testimonial #1).

D. Trump 

The affirmation by Goebbels is also shown in a speech of a lady in Michigan justifying her vote for D. Trump in USA, 2016 (Testimonial#2). She expresses her fear that latinos and muslims would take over their jobs and businesses. Also, this lady says that people do not know what latinos and muslims are planning. This is another example of lies getting repeated so many times that they have become truths. 

In the two testimonials we can see the fear that the power, in each case, was imposed over the community. Also, we can see that people in power stay in it by silencing minorities using the fear.

Testimonial #2

"Don´t get me wrong, I want everyone to get along. And I dont't want to sound racist. But they are coming into our country. If you ask me, that makes the racist. There is something going on whith the Muslims and Latinos. There is a lot we don't know about. They have a game plan. They want my granchildren to work for them. They want all the business. I'm hoping he can do something about it. We need someone to say no."

Wiphala

Es una bandera emblemática. viene de los pueblos andinos y está escrita en lengua aymará, se separa por Wiphay que significa voz de triunfo y laphaqi que se entiende como el fluir en el viento de un objeto flexible. Cada color tiene un significado:

• Rojo: representa a la Madre Tierra y la expansión del hombre andino en el continente. 
• Naranja: representa a la sociedad y la cultura. Simboliza la educación, la salud, la medicina y la formación. 
• Amarillo: representa la energía y la fuerza, la práctica colectivista de la humanidad y la solidaridad. 
• Blanco: representa el desarrollo de la ciencia y la tecnología, el arte y el trabajo intelectual. Es la representación del tiempo para llevar a cabo el progreso intelectual y armónico. 
• Verde: representa a la economía y a la producción andina. Simboliza la riqueza natural. 
• Azul: representa al espacio cósmico y la infinidad. Es la expresión de los sistemas astrales y sus efectos naturales en la Tierra. 
• Morado: representa a la política y la ideología andina. Simboliza también la filosofía y el poder armónico de los Andes.

Es cuadrangular y sus cuadrados representar la igualdad y la armonía y también simbolizan Igualdad y unidad en la diversidad de pueblos andinos. Representa la filosofía andina y los cinco principios de esta cultura (no ser vago, no mentir, no robar, no matar, no tener vicios). Gracias a esto es importante para latinoamerica, representa a nuestros pueblos indígenas que son parte muy importante de nuestra identidad ya que estamos compuestos por mezclas.

La Wiphala no solo se usa para ceremonias y como calendario, también representa un símbolo de resistencia y reclamo en la lucha por los derechos de los pueblos nativos americanos.  En la anterior foto podemos ver como un grupo usa esta bandera para reclamar su identidad que se les fue robada.
